Centre Based Social Club

SHINE Social Club offers a friendly social environment for seniors and adults with disabilities.

SHINE provides a flexible, Centre-based day program designed to satisfy a variety of activities and interests. Each week, clients enjoy a range of activities which may include a culinary adventure to new café, catching the sights along a country train route, or visiting a botanical garden or museum.

Client interest is essential in the planning of the activities schedule. Shine makes all the necessary arrangements and staff and volunteers accompany clients, ensuring their safety and comfort.

Most clients have a chosen day and come weekly, some may come twice a week and enjoy the social support from fellow clients and staff. All clients are brought to the Centre by our bus from their own homes and returned to their home in the afternoon.

Morning tea is provided on arrival back at the Centre.  We start our day with gentle exercises. All clients are encouraged to join in to assist with maintaining their flexibility and mobility. There is a selection of indoor activities such as carpet bowls, indoor golf, Wii contests and other floor games.  We also enjoy quizzes, crosswords, Scrabble, Monopoly and Bingo, to name a few. A range of guest speakers and musical entertainment are also a regular event. This allows a great opportunity for other Day Centres to join us.

A lovely home style meal is prepared and cooked on sight by our volunteer cooks, with meal selection taken from preferences given by our clients.

A day spent in the Centre gives our clients mental and physical stimulation as well as social interaction. For the family or carer this time gives them some well-deserved alone time.

The Day Centre operates Monday to Friday with attendance 9:30am to 2:30pm.

Social Support and Shopping
Involves social visiting, shopping, writing letters, going to the library, to the bank or post office.

Transport
Loss of mobility or loss of licence can mean that people become isolated in their home or totally dependent on family and friends. SHINE transport services provide independence, allowing clients to take responsibility for their transport requirements. Both paid staff and volunteer drivers assist in providing our transport services.

Leisure Outings – This service involves day outings, by bus, to interesting venues. The availability of a lovely lunch while out is a prerequisite for the outing and is enjoyed by all. Shine client eligibility is that they may only require minimum support and must be mobile and independent, able to to board and alight from a bus.
