Domestic Assistance
Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of your home can become more challenging with physical restrictions occurring with age or disability. While it is helpful to maintain as much independence as possible, there comes a time where assistance is required.
Depending on your need or specific difficulties, our support workers can help with basic housekeeping services such as:
- Vacuuming
- Mopping
- Cleaning wet areas
- Laundry
- Hanging wet clothing
- Bed stripping and remaking
Your circumstances may change over time, in which case we adjust your services to your changing situation.
How to access Domestic Assistance and the costs involved:
You can refer yourself or referrals may be made by a relative, carer, friend, GP or any other service.
You will be assessed for eligibility by a WA Regional Assessment Agency

Home Maintenance
Home Maintenance refers to general repair and care of a client’s home or yard provided by an agency. This helps the client to remain living comfortably and safely in their home. It may include minor handyman work, repair and/or gardening and is determined on a case-by-case basis, as some tasks may beyond the scope of SHINE services. Clients are responsible for the purchase of repair items.
The aim of this service is to maintain a safe, healthy and accessible home. Priority will be given to jobs that reflect this need.
- Home maintenance may include:
- Minor carpentry such as repairing door handles, gates, latches or hinge repair
- Minor repairs to fly screens or windows
- Rubbish placed on verge for bulk pick up
- Gardening, such as pruning and general tidy-ups
Meal Support
Our support workers are able to offer assistance with Meal Preparation for people who find that they are having difficulty with aspects of cooking but would still like to be able to prepare their own meals. The level of assistance this is required will be different for everyone so a personal assessment of need is completed before the service commences.
Personal Care
Personal Care is assisting with the rituals of daily life, such as, bathing, dressing and grooming. Personal Care is available for people who wish to maintain their independence and privacy at home but need assistance with personal care of daily living.
